What fees or taxes do you have to pay when buying a used car?
31st December 2009
In Manitoba, Canada I have to pay a Provincial Sales Tax(PST) of 7% and a Good and Services Tax(GST) of 6%. That’s 0 extra tax for every 00 towards a used vehicle. That’s 00 on a ,000 used car that you have to give to the Government for absolutely nothing. And its not like I have a choice living in Canada. Its 40 below zero 8 months of the year where I live so walking or taking the bus is not an option.
My credit is trashed as it is, so rule that out. I am late 23 days on the mortgage, but only 12 days behind on my car loan. The lender with the car loan is Capital One Auto Finance. If I pay the mortgage late, it will show up on my credit report, which is trashed, but if I could salvage anything it would be a late mortgage payment. I dont want the car repossessed though, it would seriously destroy my life, no means to get to work, etc.
One of the hottest trends in motorcycling in recent years has been the re-emergence of the Chopper as a main stream vehicle. Once the preserve of biker gangs you are now more likely to see a lawyer or a doctor cruising on his Chopper than outlaw biker. This resurgence has been fueled by a whole host of TV Shows such as American Chopper and The Great Biker Build Off.
Not since the heyday of choppers in the 70’s, no doubt fuelled by the iconic movie Easy Rider, have you been able to find such a large range of choppers available in either kit form or already completed. In this article we will attempt to guide you through the process of finding the right chopper that will give you years of service.
One of the first things you need to decide on is what kind of chopper it you want. Today there are basically three types of chopper that you can choose from.
The Bobber: This is what an original style chopper would have looked like and which were being built by US Servicemen upon their return home after the Second World War. This bike is provided with its distinctive by removing those parts which are not needed. Not only does this reduce the weight of the bike but also helps to improve its performance levels. Also to further improve its handling then lowering the unsprung weight as well as moving its center of gravity can help. Certainly the last couple of years there has been a steady increase in the popularity of the Bobber chopper.
The Pro Street Chopper: It is very easy to spot a pro street chopper. They have fat rear tires and long extended forks. The style is loosely derived from drag bikes. The Bikes geometry can make the handling an bit awkward on twisty roads but on a straight and away from the lights they really come into their own.
The Rat Bike: Appearing in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s rat bikes are like something from the Movie “Mad Max ” The philosophy behind them is to keep the bike on the road for the longest amount of time and spend the least amount of money possible. This often results in parts from other machines being cannibalized and added to the bike. Rat Bikes are almost exclusively Matt Black
When you have decided upon the style of chopper that you want the next step is to make a decision on the style of rear suspension it should have. You have the choice of either a hard tail or a soft tail. With a hard tail there is no rear suspension and the only comfort you will have when riding it comes from the springs built into the bikes seat. As for the soft tail this has extremely good rear suspension and so the ride is much more comfortable. If you are going to be someone who intends to spend a large part of their spare time riding their bike then a chopper with soft tail suspension would be ideal for you.
If you are interested in learning more about these bikes and to see what is currently available in your local area, then please check out the details for our store below.
If you are seriously considering buying a customized bike then make sure you go to Custom Chops first. At Custom Chops we provide advice on finding the right customized bike for you.
