are normal people allowed to bid?
13th May 2011
at many of the car auctions, are normal people allowed to participate, bid and buy vehicles or is it only for dealers. i came across a site for osman auto auction in edmonton, but dnt know if they will allow normal buyers. also, can anyone tell whether the cars at these auctions are in OK condition or just accident hit vehicles, given the big difference in the prices from the normal used or new market……. please guide

You have to have a car dealer license in order to purchase from dealer auction sites.
You can only go to public auctions or police public auctions.
There’s a stereotype about Used Car dealers. They’re not all dishonest, this industry is heavily regulated. The guidelines created ensure that the public are protected.
When you like a car you see, check the VIN # in the front dash, and go to CAR FAX and print out a report(which is 100% accurate)

Not sure if everyone is allowed to bid but you could call and ask. I’m not sure about Osman but I know for Adesa the selling dealer has to list what is wrong with the vehicle, and the vehicle has to pass a Buyer Protection Inspection or something like that to verify it’s good. Unless the selling dealer marks it as a red light, which means sold as is, which usually means filled with many problems or a very big problem. Hope this helps!
