A Salvage cars auction can easily be exciting for some car shoppers and the excitement may not be entirely due to the selection of cars. For some it is the thrill of the hunt and the possibility of finding the deal of a lifetime in the next car for sale. Most of these auctions will have cars with varying degrees of damage. Not all cars are repairable and it is up to the shopper to make that determination.

Research is of course essential to getting the best deal in anything including auctions. It is best if the auction offers a showing time where potential buyers can inspect the cars that the shopper attend this. It lets them kick the tires, look under the hood and even request a test drive if the vehicle is drivable, this is not always possible. These cars must be examined with a very careful eye as cars with a poor body may have a great engine and those with a pristine exterior may not ever work again.

The auctioneer or broker is usually present at these advance showings and a car buyer should ask them as many questions as occur at that time. In addition for some sales there will be other buyers and this is an ideal opportunity for the very social person to venture a few questions to the experienced auction car buyers. Online sales may lack that one on one opportunity but they will also allow the buyer plenty of time to research the cars offered for auction.

If a particular car looks interesting and is in running condition buyers can request a test drive with some companies. This varies with the auction house and of course with the car in question. Even the most experienced car buyer can have questions about the soundness of a car. It is not a bad idea to bring a mechanic friend to the auction with you if you are not a licensed mechanic.

Not every car on the lot will be repairable. Sometimes the damage has been too extensive but that does not mean they are without value either. These cars can be a parts source for a restoration project. Although they may never run again their parts can provide brand new life to a project car or restoration.

Recreational vehicles such as RVS and motorcycles also can be found at car auctions. These vehicles will require the same very close inspection for damage as the cars do. The easily repaired motorcycle could be a bargain that some can’t afford to let pass. All cars and vehicles will probably have sustained some amount of damage and it is the buyer’s responsibility to determine just how much.

Finally an auction is a social experience even online. Bidding against others may be exciting but it should be done with care and with a strict upper limit on the maximum bid in mind. While a lot of money can be saved by buying salvaged cars at auction, it is also true that a bidder carried away and determined to win that bid at all costs may pay more.

Have you ever went to an auto auction? That is where you will come across salvage cars – some are actually really good. If you need auction help, we’re the ones to see.
