I have seen a paper ad in Chicago tribune paper on Sunday.
It says one of the toyota dealer in Elgin IL is doing some auto auction next week.

It says there might car for as low as .
It says that customers can come at 4PM and look at the cars and all the used cars will
have a price tag. And later at 6PM some sales manager would come down and mark down
all the prices and there would be huge discounts. And some cars might be as low as *.

Just wanted to know if these auctions what car dealers conduct is it another sales gimmick to lure customers to there door step ?

Did any customer buy cars in these kinds of auction ?
Let me know

  1. you do realize it costs nearly $300 to legally dispose of a junk or unroadworthy car so getting you to PAY $79 to take it away is a bargain, if you want a cheap car go round the dealers and see what old cars they want to get rid of

  2. These are just another form of sales promotion by a dealer. He wants to get as many people as he can on his lot so that he can sell them a car at normal prices. Why not look at other kinds of public car auctions. Here’s an article with more details: http://www.leaseguide.com/Articles/publiccarauctions.htm

  3. You live in the same state as me so you’ll know this will be more accurate.

A dealer in Libertyville had this same sale two years ago.

How it works is you sign up, then run to the car you want. Some salesman with a mic and marker runs around and puts the prices on the cars. From what I see, all the cars go at good prices but only junkers (usually 5-7 of them) get the $79 price. The junkers are really not all too bad…

When you get there, find the crappiest car there (or a relatively crappy car), that’s one of the $79 dollar ones.

    Good Luck!

  4. Car for as low as $79… I want that one and I don’t even need to see the car or ask if it runs. No customers bought one for $79, I can assure you of that.

  5. what-ta ya know ,,,,a car for less than 100 bucks…wow…..what a gimmick brother,,,,you kinda figured that one out….huh….sure there is a car for under 100 but its just one ….ONE….the rest are at normal dealer prices…..well it was a full page ad ,,,,must be marketing at work,,,,,if they said there were hot dogs and girl in bikini would you go?

    god speed

  6. im sure that the ad is true. But they might only have one or two cars starting at that price. Remember that in an auction the price of that car will surely be higher than 79 dollars when the bid finishes. They just put that in the paper to lure you into going.
