I was thinking about this earlier. Can they legally repo a car, if it’s on private property, and it has the wrong plates and the vin number is covered up?

Yes, they can because for whatever reason, the vehicle does not belong to you anymore in which case, private property or not, they will get the car.
And to Sean above me…. I would PAY to seen anyone crawl UNDER a car to look at a vin plate while its lifted on a tow truck….

The VIN is located in places other than just the dash. It’s etched on the frame of the car. There’s a way for you to cover that, but that becomes a federal crime. And no, they don’t have to open your car to do it, they can just use the tow truck to lift it up, then crawl underneath.

Repo people carry tools to bypass car locks. Although it is not legal they would just pop the locks and look at the VIN.
It’s then on the ex car owner to prove that the car was locked at the time OR that the VIN was covered. And then the car owner would be charged with trying to conceal the creditors car. You can’t win against these people. If it’s their car they are going to have it one way or another. They don’t get paid unless they get the car..

probably not. more especially if it were repainted. (it wouldnt match the description they have) also, i figure if the car was tarped they wouldnt be allowed to go on private property and peek under it. dont quote me on that though.
