You should call your local Dept. of Motor Vehicles for this answer because some states allow you to keep your plates. If the state you are in does not then you have to use the plates that were issued to that car.

No…any cop that pulled behind you and ran your plates would pull you over and haul you off. License plates are tied to specific cars.
You have to register your new car with the DMV, they will issue you new plates. If you purchased your car from a dealer they probably already registered the vehicle and are just waiting on the plates. If you purchased it from an individual you probably need to take in the title and bill of sale to get this done.

Are you really serious with this question? You should not be allowed to own a car or have a license if you have to ask this question.
Fictitious plates will result in you spending time in jail until they can find out who owns the plates (your word won’t do), if they are stolen, it the car you are driving is stolen, if the car the plates where registered to is stolen, the whereabouts of that car.

as long as you switch the registration at the tag office..its not as much as new plates but it will still cost a lil bit.

No. The vehicle would appear stolen to a police officer. You may be able to transfer the plates from one vehicle to another, but you’d have to go through your state DMV to do it.
