Imagine this scenario:
A car was brought from an auction by person1 for person2, the car was used by person2 with insurance but without tax and never registed. The car gets reported without tax 1 year ago and never used since, recently the car is then seen on the road "parked" and reported again to the police for no tax. person2 is now worried about the fines and possibility of invalid insurance. Now the only option seems to be to scrap or abandon the Lovely! car :( … Can the police see who has insured the car (i.e. details of their name and address) and trace it back to person2?

  1. ok. honestly this has happened to me, everything goes with the vin number, if the car has never been registered then the original owner is still on everything, when I traded my truck in to get my car I was the first and original owner of the truck. well it was sold off to auction because of the high miles on it so what happened was somebody bought the truck and never registered it and with that they wrecked the truck and when the impound company ran the vin it came to us and then they were wanting us to pay for it so with that said if it was never registered then it will come back to the original owner.

  3. Generally you can’t insure a car you don’t own. If the auction sold it and reported the sale, they are off the hook. If the person who bought it never registered it, chances are it’s going to be towed, stored, and sold again at auction or crushed. Unless you are "person 1" who bought it from the auction and passed it to someone else without doing the needed paper work, don’t worry about it.

  4. This probly depends on your state. And I assume your in an area that is not my area. So, where I live we call all this stuff something else.

I don’t know the answer to your question. Sorry. But you might post what state your in for better help from others.
