4 months ago I lost my job. It took me about a month just to find another job that pays just over minimum wage. So I already had to try and play catch up with my bills that I couldn’t pay for that month and since I was making WAY less then I was making I could in no way afford my bills… it got to the point where it was either pay my car payment or buy groceries and keep the heat on.

So needless to say, I am about to be 4 months behind. I just got a new job where I am making more and in one month my fiance (he was injured and had to have surgery around the same time I lost my job—so hardly any money was coming in from him)— he will be getting a bonus check from work now that he is back.

So anyways… our car is up for repossession. I tried talking to them– they don’t care. I told them that I can pay what I owe by my March payment— they won’t accept it.

Problem is… I am in Florida (where my family lives) working a side job before my new job starts. I won’t be back until a week before my fiance gets his check… so they aren’t going to be able to get the car till then.

Is there any way I can pay it off when he gets the check even though it is up for repo?

  1. They really don’t want to repossess your car, they want you to pay the loan as agreed. If you are still in possession of the car, you can pay the balance due plus late fee’s. If the car gets repossessed you still have an opportunity to get it back before they auction it off. There will be additional fee’s involved with that. Get your check, pay your loan and keep your car, everyone is happy that way. Good luck.

  2. Really, you answered your own question. "I tried talking to them– they don’t care"

They don’t want the payments made up, they already gave you that choice, and you weren’t able to keep them up, so they repossessed.

The only way to get the car back at this point is to pay the entire balance. What you owe, plus the costs of repossession, plus any penalties.

Sorry. And the worse part is, they are eventually going to auction off the car and you will still owe the difference between what it brought and your balance plus.

  3. As long as they can’t find the car, you are in the clear. Just call your finance company and start catching up on those payments.

  4. Places like buy here pay here love to repo cars, because they over charged you for it anyway, and now get the car back to resell to someone else..so they cant lose.

I would make a payment, then tell them you will keep making payments and if they repo the car, tell them you are reporting them to the state.
If they repo the car with you still making payments you can probably find a sympathetic judge in small claims court who will see these guys for the crooks they are

or you can turn the car over, and buy one from a respectable place or buy a used one outright

I recommend you get out from under since the interest on the car I’m sure is WAY too high
    its a racket
