Do you have to have a dealers licence in texas for buying and selling from police auctions?

I’m wondering if this is a requirement for buying both cars and motorcycles.

No. Police auctions are open to the public. So anyone can buy from them. BUT you do need a dealer’s license if you plan on buying and then selling more than 3 vehicles a year. They aren’t cheap. And you have to go through an extensive background investigation. If you decide not to get a dealer’s license and sell more than the limit, the DMV will catch up to you and make you pay some extremely high penalty fees.

No, you only need a dealer’s license to go to a dealer’s auction. All the other types of auctions are open to the public.
