How can I tell if My 05 Pontiac G6 has stock Autostart or not?
14th February 2011
I recently purchased the car used from an auction. The remote control has an auto start button, and driver’s information panel has an auto start menu. But when the key is pressed on the remote control, all that happens is three honks and thats it.

Alright… here’s what you’re gonna do! I found that the autostart was an option on the ’05 G6, not standard epuipment. To tell if your G6 has it, you are going to have to check the vehicle’s SPID (Service Parts ID) label. On the G6, the SPID label is located in the glove box. On this label there will be a list of 30 or so RPO codes. If it has the RPO code "AP3," then this G6 has the Remote Vehicle Starter System. If it does not have the code "AP3" on the list, you car does not have the auto-start and the remote is just sending it’s signal to the car and the car beeps as a response.

Ok having a 2006 G6 my self with auto start. You are going to need to make sure the car is unlocked before you try to use the auto start. Don’t worry no one will be able to drive off in your car. The car will not go in gear until the key is put into the ignition. If it does not start then take it to a local dealer and they will look at it for you. When you take the car to be serviced just tell them that it does not seem to be working for you. They will take a look at it for you. And if there is something that is wrong then they will let you know hoe much it is going to coast to have it fixed.
