  1. just make sure all the necessary information is filled out on the back of it,and its signed right, don’t try and erase anything if its not put on right, any signs of eraser marks and the title is void right on the spot, good luck with it.

  2. Make sure the title has a discharge of lean if had a loan. the Vin numbers match an go to the tag office an have them check so there isn’t tickets that haven’t been payed? they will check it out while your getting a tag so you are not driving with no tags or the wrong 1.Get a bill of sale notarized if needed.Call your state tag agency ask them what you need so you don’t have drama.

  3. Before you ever buy the vehicle from a private party, ask to see the title, and make sure it is clear, no finance company listed as the legal owner, that type of thing. Compare the VIN on the title to the VIN on the car. If it’s all as it should be, hand them the cash and have them sign the proper line as seller (sign here, print here) and if it’s less than 10 years old that you fill out the odometer statement and sign, you sign as buyer, get your bill of sale, put the insurance card you got from your insurance agent in the glove box, and go to the DMV to transfer the title.

  4. First ask the seller to make a last inspection for the used car , then Go to AAA /DMV together with the seller,
before the notary , get a notarized signed- over clear
title to you and immediately make the registration
for your car to your name. this is in same state as your.
Out of state , have to check out http://www.DMV.org for
    detail as I just did

  5. Make sure that the seller has clear title to the car. If there’s a lienholder listed on it, it is NOT a clear title. Do NOT give the seller any $$$ until they clear the lien!

Hand the seller the cash in exchange for a properly signed ORIGINAL title. It’s OK if it’s marked "Duplicate" but never accept a photocopy of a title. If you have any doubt of the authenticity of the title, go to the DMV with the seller and have them sign it over to you there and complete the transaction with the DMV.

NEVER agree to let the seller clear the title and forward it to you! Once they have your money there’s no incentive for them to do the right thing.
