How to buy a used car with little to no credit?
13th July 2011
Apparently, there are rules to this little site. So, let me edit my question appropriately as so not to offend anybody. I’m 19 and I have basically no credit. I want to try and get a used car, but I am unsure what would be the best way to do so, seeing as most car dealers require good credit and/or a cosigner. Is there anything I can do right now, or do I just need to wait until my credit score goes up?

Wait for credit score to go up?
Heck, you’re 19. Unless you are one of the FEW well connected 19-year olds in this economy, you won’t be making near enough income on your own to pull a loan.
Cash talks.

You are going to have to save up and build credit.
A buy here pay here dealer MIGHT finance you with a significant down payment but they are really rip-offs and you will pay at least twice what the car is worth plus very high interest if you use them.
And on the lower end cars, say $600-800 down, often you pay down the cars value and still owe $2900+ interest.
Your best bet is to start saving and also building credit.
Maybe with a department store credit card or a secured mastercard or visa.
And really, its about 5 years late for you to be worrying about this.
I started saving at age 14 so I could buy my own car for cash when I was 16.
Cost me $1150.
Your credit score isn’t going to go up on its own. You have to build it.

Cars under financing and leasing are more expensive because it require full coverage insurance. You can estimate insurance rate difference online – carquotes.sinfree.net
