How to get my personal items out of my car that was repossessed?
25th November 2010
I traded in my 2002 Chevy Silverado last year during cash for clunkers and got 00 towards my new Toyota Yaris. I got laid off from my job 2 months ago so I stopped making the payments. Problem is they repossed the car, but my gps, laptop, and my wallet are still in the car. How do I get these items back?
It sucks, now I have no car at all, and am out a 0 laptop if I don’t get it back.

You let the dealership ruin a perfectly good Chevy truck for a piece of **** plastic Toyota. You deserve to lose all your belongings for that.
This is what they did to all the trade ins

Better get to the towing yard ASAP!! I think most repo companies are allowed to keep or hold items found in cars. The better ones will hold personal items for a couple of days but not all will. I’d get over to the lot immediately and recover your personal items.

If you know which repo company has the car you can most likely go to the lot and request to get your stuff.
I know AC/DC its such a shame….

it all depends on your finance company on how long the car will be held at the repo yard but the minimum that we hold a car is for gmac leases which we will hold for 2 day on leases and 10 days for purchases before they are shipped for auction.
when we repo a car we take it and put it in the secure lot leaving everything in it until right before it leaves for auction. All you have to do is go there and show your drivers license and you will be allowed to take all of your personal possessions out. By law they have to let you get anything out not attached permanently to the car
Also if you are only two months behind call your finance company and work out a deal with them, I have seen it many times where they will cut a deal and you can get your car back for less than what is owed on it, Finance companies would much rather you get your car back and keep paying on it then have to pay us to hold it and ship it to auction and not know what they will get for it
