in the past year! He had the statements all sent to his job, and changed my phone number with the creditors so that they couldn’t contact me! He even messed up my checking account so bad that they closed it and now my credit is so bad that I can’t open a new one! This is such a nightmare! I always paid everything off on time to keep my credit score high, but I have been in and out of the hospital fighting my cancer and he was swearing to me that he was handling the bills – boy was he ever! The accounts were in both of our names, so the creditors aren’t going to care whose fault it is! I need advice, we have three children so I can’t wait seven years to have an account or any money! Do people ever recover from credit problems this bad? I am devastated and sick with worry all the time, please help me.

  1. Get a lawyer one who can handle both a divorce and bankruptcy. File for both protections right away. In the future moniter your credit report monthly to protect yourself. You can rebuild your credit afterward, lots of people have.

Go to a bank that doesn’t use ChexSystems.

Look in the forums there. Good luck to you!

  2. i noticed soo many answers bashing your husband while im not saying what he did was good i also cant help but think that medical bills dealing with your frequent hospital stays played some part in this…..if hes wasting all your money on strippers and drugs thats one thing but it he just cant make the money available stretch far enough then i wouldnt put all the blame on him.

  3. My advice to you is declare bankruptcy immediately after you divorce to get out from under your debt situation created by your illness and your soon to be ex-husbands financial mismanagement.

  4. Honey, you don’t need Yahoo! Answers…you need a divorce lawyer…you need to call one first thing Monday morning, and tell them it’s an emergency.

No one here can help you as quickly as you need help.

  5. You can easily bring in a lot of legitimate cash completing free offers on GPT sites. GPT (Get Paid To) websites are a good and easy way to make fast and free money online. A good site to learn about them is http://www.gptcentral .net/.

  6. Go to Legal Aid now do not pass go. You have some legal rights to have separate credit they can advise you best on your proper course of action. Good Luck

  7. You need to take this asshole to court and ask for legal redress. The court will not take kindly to him letting his children’s home be foreclosed on. File for an emergency hearing. If you file for bankruptcy that would forestall the creditors actions and give you time to work things out. You really didn’t give us enough information for a better answer. Is he under a court order to pay these bills? What about child support. If you have cancer you would certainly qualify for alimony, are you getting it? I wish you the best. Next time you need to see your bills so always keep in touch with the creditors yourself. Never trust anyone to handle this for you.

  8. I hope you get alot out of him when you divorce. He sounds like a walking turd.

Good luck with the cancer. I hope you make a full recovery.

  9. Sounds similar to the mess I was in. I filed for bankruptcy and as soon as that was over, I filed for divorce. I had nothing to lose and he had nothing to give me so it was a quick divorce. We didn’t even have to go to court. Just signed the papers saying we hate each other. I did go to court for child support but I really didn’t expect to get that either. He’s now $20,000 behind. I really don’t think you have any other choice but bankruptcy. You will feel much better afterwards. The worrying can’t be helping your cancer recovery either. You will have to struggle for a few years. If you have good family they will help you out. I had to have a car put in my dad’s name. But he trusted me to make the payments. And I did. I sure didn’t want him to come kick my butt for missing a payment! After 5 years I finally was able to get a new car in only my name and it felt so good.
