i had my car repossessed?

3rd October 2010

Chrysler came and took my car from my place of employment friday (4 in the morning). i called and they told me i would have to pay about 0 in repossesion fees. that they would need proof of employment on me and my dad(they have my dads info on file) but im unable to get them my dads info since he is outta town 4 almost 2 weeks. but my mom is able to get me the $$ to get my car back. so here are my questions. Don’t they have to notify me of repossesion? they told me they sent me a notice a cpl months ago, and they are valid for 6 months. but i only owe for april and well now may. so how can they say they sent a notice if i got cought up?
but i was told they are doing this since i wouldnt answer my phone when they called. Im In minnesota if that means anything. im getting the $$ tomorrow(tuesday) to hopefully get the car on wed. any advice or knoledge would be great. thanks!
they have all of my dads info on file(he is the main person on the loan) why do i have to get it again if they have it, he hasent changed jobs. what are the chances i just offer them the money and they give me the car back? what if we offer them 1,000 instead of the 800 i owe?
i called chrysler and have faxed them all my info they needed. they said once they got the info and the money i could get my car back, well i got the $$ in my account now, but cant pay them till am

  1. They aren’t going to return your car unless you can prove an income – or, in this case, your fathers income. If your mother can’t prove and income, they probably won’t give your car back.

Yes, they can repo your car without notice. The notice they sent you "a couple of months ago" probably mentioned that you were either behind or were not making full payment or was paying late. Most companies don’t repo a car for only 2 months in arrears. Something fishy there.

Best thing you can do is – when you get the car back – make payments on time so they don’t repo again. You are ruining your credit.

  2. They may accept $800 instead of the $1,000 but they are not obligated too. The fact that you did not make your payment should have been "notice of repossession" enough. I’m surprised they let you get that far behind. You ask "how can they say they sent notice if i got cought up?" If you were current on your car loan (which you are not-you already said you owe for April and now may) they would not have repossessed your car. That is just not how it works. Finance companies don’t take vehicles away from paying customers.

  3. You should have paid your bills on time and no they don’t necessarily have to notify you of repossession because you should already know if you don’t pay your bills.

Sorry if that ain’t what you wanted to hear.
