So we found a grenade…?

31st December 2010

on an internet auction website, it was a realistic toy which didn’t function but it came with a metal pin and it looks the part. My friend was recently subjected to a random drug search by police. When asked if he had any offensive weapons/sharp objects that could harm the policeman searching him he pulled out the grenade, and as a joke – he pulled the pin. The officers panicked, smacked it out of his hand and ran full pelt, and he ran too. He was then picked up by another cop car which had been alerted about the incident and arrested. What charges is he likely to face and what can he do to get out of it/receive a lesser punishment?

(This was in the UK, police don’t carry guns so he wasn’t in any risk of being shot like he would be in the wild west/America. It was intended as a joke, a very serious and stupid joke, but a joke nonetheless)
Police in the UK can do a random drug search on the street if they have any suspicions at all that the person could be a drug user and we don’t have to point a gun at someone to get them to surrender, they either get chased in vehicles until they crash and are easy to arrest or they are overpowered by the officers who rush at them like men. The question isn’t about UK customs though…
Right wing patriot: compare the school shootups that have occured in my country, with those that have occured in yours. Justify it however you want, but you’re a bunch of uncivilised savages :)

  2. Cops don’t carry guns? What do they do point bad guys into submission?

  3. The police will tell him what he will be charged with when they have decided. There is nothing he can do at this stage other than perhaps to visit his police station to apologise to the officers concerned. If that doesn’t work he can apologise to the court. If he has no previous criminal record it will be unlikely that he will be heavily punished. Probably community service or a conditional discharge. The thing is, does he realise what a prat he is? If not he is likely to end up in more trouble later in life.

  4. Your friend is a F****** idiot he deserved to be shot. They’ll probably charge him with assaulting an officer with a deadly weapon. It’s not funny my dad is a police officer, I hope he gets butt-r*ped in prison

  7. He’s lucky he was not shot. He probably is looking at a nasty time in prison for terrorist activity.

  8. Random drugs search? It looked the part? He carried this around in his pocket? He Pulled the pin? personally he deserves to be beat until he bursts, the prat. Firstly, he could be charged with having an imitation firearm in suspicious circumstances. If he had have been in Northern Ireland, let alone England, he would be lying on the ground with two bullets in him for his stupidity.

  10. I hope he gets a prison sentence. I’d love to see the reaction if your ‘joke’ backfired and the officers were armed. We’d have another ‘poor innocent boy, gun happy police’ story.

  14. your friend is a moron. and why did you let your country go downhill to the point that the police can do a random stop? and why did you just surrender your weapons when the government outlawed them? also the us isn’t the wild west. the wild west was safer BECAUSE everyone carried a gun.
