can auto repair shop repo an unfixed car?
13th November 2010
Ok so i had a lady back into me a few months ago, it dented up my hood but that’s about it, i took it to a shop where my brother works, got it appraised, and they ordered the parts for me. i never got around to fixing my car because i had to get into the money for personal reasons. My brother called me today telling me that his boss has a lean on my car, and that if i don’t fix it, he will repo my car. i don’t know if he can do this since he has not fixed it, the car is entirely in my name, and completely paid off. does anyone know if he can repossess my unfixed car? i need help on this ASAP!
Can You Do Your Own Auto Repair?
18th May 2010
Your drive your car into your driveway. It is squealing and groaning. Finally it stops. You get out and open the hood. You see that the serpentine belt is broken. If you call a garage, they will have to tow it in. You cannot afford to pay for the tow and repair. You have to get to work. Should you consider your own aauto repair ? Can you handle it?
Many times, serpentine belt replacement is not difficult. It depends on the car. In some cases, the serpentine belt may be almost inaccessible. Other cases are simple. First, do an online search on your model of car. There are many websites dedicated to particular vehicles. You will need a diagram for belt routing. You can sometimes find them under the hood. They are available at several online sources.
A belt tensioner is one of the key components of the system. It has a pulley and an inner spring. It keeps tension on the belt as it turns. Across from the tensioner is an idler pulley. It balances out the system. To remove or replace the serpentine belt, remove tension from the tensioner. You insert a wrench or driver and push downward.
You will also need to decide on what kind of job you want to do. Do you plan on keeping the car for some time? If so, replace the tensioner and the idler pulley. If those parts go bad, you will be buying and replacing another serpentine belt. Plus, you may find yourself stranded somewhere. Also, do not get the cheapest belt available. This will cost more money, but it is worth it. The better belts are quieter and last longer.
Compare prices of all of your parts needed. Some parts stores will have the same item for much less. Check out their website or call them.
Before you replace the serpentine belt, make sure that all surfaces are clean. It works best if you have a helper, but is not absolutely necessary. Make sure the belt is routed properly. The top connection is usually the best to save for last. It may be difficult to get the new belt on. You may need to stretch it a little. Sometimes you can use a large screwdriver. Be very careful that you do not damage anything in the process. Push the tensioner down. Once the belt is on you release the tensioner and you are done.
Summary
Sometimes you will want to do your own auto repair. Make sure that you have sufficient information. You may want to replace additional items at the time of repair. This will keep you on the road.

If I can't pay an auto repair bill, can the shop auction my vehicle to someone else, then ask me to buy back?
17th April 2010
I have a question regarding my title. About 10 months ago I took my car to a auto repair shop Aamco transmission to have some work done, after 45 days of BS, long story short the bill went from 00 to 00, so I had no way to pay for the work and Aamco told me if I could not pay the cost by that Friday then my car would be impounded and auctioned and thats all there was to it. Leaving it at that, this whole time I just thought my car was auctioned to pay the bill and nothing more I could do.
So 2 days ago, I get a Certified letter in the mail stating my car has been sitting on they’re lot and if I can make the payment of 00. I can have my car back and avoid any of the costly storage fees that could total now over 00 all together. So I call to ask questions about this situation, and they tell me the only way now to get my car back is to "Make an Offer" with the owner of my vehicle. But this makes no sense since I’m still the legal owner, I have never recieved any other information on this matter untill just now. They said they have sent me 3 letters within this last almost year, which I have never ever recieved, better yet they said they were certified, so there’s proof right there I never received them. And the guy basically told me on the phone if I don’t pay up or make an offer now "to the owner of my vehicle" he can just go to the bank and buy the title back. I told him the bank didn’t own the car I do, and he was basically stuck.
My question is: Is my car stolen? What do I need to do to get my car back, and do I need a lawyer?
