I bought a used car from a dealership, got home and realized that they did not do a current inspection and the inspection sticker is expired. Can they do that?

I am not very saavy when it comes to buying cars. I’m thinking about buying a used car and I’m meeting up with the seller for the first time. What are some things I should consider in terms of the car itself (inspection) and making the deal? Can anyone with some expertise in this area give me a list of things I should consider in making the deal? Thanks!

I’ve never had any of the used cars I’ve bought inspected and haven’t had any problems but I’m helping my buddy buy his first car and I think it would be a good idea. What should I tell him to ask the mechanic?
I’m in No Cal (Northern California)

I’m planning to purchase a used car in Jacksonville/Orange Park, FL, but I’m not sure where I should take the car before I purchase it to inspect it and make sure it’s okay. It doesn’t matter to me where, as long as it’s a quality inspection and it’s fairly cheap (we’re willing to pay – for the inspection). Any suggestions? Thanks!
