I’m buying a used car off of Craigslist by owner. Any tips? What are some points I should look out for?

I don’t have a lot of money to spend at the moment but I’m in desperate need for a car. Because they’re cheap there are obviously a lot of imperfections. What do terms like ‘needs title’, transmission, valves mean? Does not having a title or paperwork for a used car a bad thing? Any more information I should know about the basics of a car or buying a used car? What kind of questions should I ask the owner? Thanks!
