Do not let failing to report an accident become part of your usual business practice. No matter where people are working, a warehouse, car garage, kitchen or an office they must be kept safe and with nobody reporting accidents the whole morale of the workers will also be down.

There should be no injuries or fatalities due to problems that can be avoided. We have come a long way since out past regarding safety but we can always do better. What good is running a company to make money when workers are getting hurt, proper procedures have to be put in place to protect everyone.

The supervisor or person directly in charge on top of you must be notified when an accident has occurred; there is no sense in waiting for even a second to hesitate. Problems are recorded so that they will not happen again to another person just like they happened in the first place, so everyone is aware of the danger.

Injuries must be reported and logbooks collected so that everyone can learn of the danger and know how to avoid it from happening again. You could be responsible for other people getting hurt just by your refusal to report earlier similar instances.

Occupational health and safety representatives should be present at all working sites; they should either have that job alone or hold the title while also doing another job. With these specialists in place people have some security and know that when something happens it is their job to fix it for them.

Some people may think that it is not their job to do the reporting of an accident and they are not getting paid for it so why do it. But this attitude is the wrong one to have for several reasons. Dangerous work practices should be abolished and changed and if the person acting wrongly refuses to change they should lose their job.

Dealing with accidents incorrectly may lead to the exact same thing happening to someone else or even you. Great care must be taken in reporting accidents and failing to do so should never be an option. When faced with a problem it must be reported and labeled correctly so that people know there is a hazard there.

Slippery floors, broken machinery or cracked glass whether it is a problem waiting to happen or something that may become a problem all of these issues need to be raised and taken care of. Records of everything must be kept so everyone is properly informed and prepared.

If you find yourself accused of breaking the laws of the road such as Failing to Report an Accident or general speeding offences, then you will undoubtedly be wanting the help of qualified solicitors to help you plead your case. Patterson Law are a specialist road law firm.

Cargo crime is not a new problem. However, it’s a concerning one nonetheless, given that in Europe alone, the estimated cost to businesses is 8.5 billion Euros a year. That’s according to the European Union, who are seeking to cut the number of criminal attacks on road transport vehicles each year. But just why are lorries, vans and trailers such a common criminal target?

The most simple and perhaps obvious answer is the potential financial gain. Cargo vehicles carry a high volume of high value goods, whether it’s designer clothing or electrical. Whatever a truck is carrying, for a criminal to get their hands on it offers him or her a greater financial reward than getting their hands on the contents of a family car, for example.

Add to that the relative ease with which road vehicles can be targeted. Lorries and vans using Europe’s motorways are not always particularly difficult targets. Drivers stop periodically along their journeys and it’s not difficult for organised criminals to obtain information about stopping locations. There’s even times a driver must sleep in his lorry during a journey.

It is thought that much of the crime that takes place is carried out by organised criminal gangs who are familiar with the most commonly used routes and sometimes are even able to familiarise themselves with the service stations that drivers will be the most likely to stop at, making it simple for them to target vehicles.

The logistics companies are just as keen as the manufacturers to target this problem, given the massive financial losses they incur as a result. However, it won’t be an overnight fix. It’s always recommended that vehicles are fitted with slam locks or a similar high end locking system, designed especially for that type of vehicle. Drivers should also be educated on the safest stop points and potential dangers of their routes, in order that they are alert.

Slam locks are, as the name might suggest, a form of locks that causes a vehicle door to lock when it is closed. It will not then reopen until the right key is used. The automatic nature of slam locks means that locking up when the driver leaves the vehicle isn’t something that can be forgotten, thus improving the overall security of a vehicle.

Cargo crime is costing a fortune in the European Union. The EU’s statistics tells us that European businesses are being hit with a bill of eight and a half billion Euros every single year. Many of the offences taking place on the roads of Europe are being carried out by criminal gangs who are well organised and know the transport routes well.

Commercial freight vehicles are an appealing target for criminals. This is down to the fact that accessing vehicles on the roads is comparatively easy and they are often carrying a lot of merchandise with an extremely high value. Drivers should also be taking regular breaks on the road and some even have to sleep in their vehicles, making them an easier target still.

Because a slam lock forces the door to lock every single time a driver closes it, the human error element can be removed. There are countless instances of cargo crime offences that take place when a driver simply forgets to lock his door when leaving the vehicle at services etc.

This type of locking solution is probably really a minimum requirement in order to minimise the risk of theft from a commercial transporting vehicle. There are now so many other advanced security measures on the market, such as alarm systems and immobilisers and they’re all there with to protect against the very real threat of cargo crime. It seems, to a degree, almost unfair that a company or individual should have to invest so heavily just to prevent criminals from striking, but with the potential cost of a theft from a transport vehicle, it’s often money well spent.

There is rising pressure facing the UK government to reduce the legal limit of alcohol consumption when driving. The current limit stands at 80mg per 100ml of blood which relates to approximately a pint and a half of medium strength lager for an average sized man. The proposed limit would bring it down to 50mg per 100ml of blood which is little more than half a pint or a large glass of wine which is in line with the European Union limit.

Current UK law states that anyone found driving over the legal limit faces an automatic 12 month driving ban but Sir Peter North QC is currently investigating the possibilities of introducing a second, lower penalty for anyone above the lower limit such as 6 points on a driving licence. Changes could also see prosecutions for drivers found with illegal drugs in their bloodstream, regardless of whether it impaired their performance.

According to Lord Adonis, the Transport Secretary, 430 people were killed as a result of drink driving last year however this figure only refers to people who were over the current legal limit. He also suggests drug-driving is a key concern for the public.

Sir Peter added: ”Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs still leads to a large number of deaths and serious injuries. The challenge is to see whether changes in the law and its processes can reduce casualties.”

AA President, Edmund King also added “the legal issue is more complex than the limit as a sliding scale of penalties could reduce the deterrent effect. There is a serious problem with drink drive repeat offenders with recent figures suggesting that almost a quarter of drink drivers have served a previous ban.”

The proposal is not met with open arms by everyone though, Tony Payne, chief executive of the Federation of Licensed Victuallers Associations argued “We will fight this very very strongly,” he said. “This will penalise responsible people because of the behaviour of some idiots.

Thousands of motorists are prosecuted every year for a drink driving offence but the punishments for speeding are far less despite it causing a significantly higher number of deaths each year.

The Tesla Roadster Sports is the first fully electric supercar with commercial viability; it is a brainchild of Silicon Valley, financed by 38 year old PayPal billionaire Elon Musk. Tesla is an unconventional motoring start-up founded by Californian software engineer Martin Eberhard.

Eberhard’s dream was to produce a car that was powered by sustainable energy while, unlike all its competitors, was practical enough to use every day. The hard part was developing the technology and putting it in a car at a price people could afford. Then Eberhard realised, none of the high tech gadgets he was used to ever start like that, they were all hyped-up, over priced and rare, becoming cheaper with time and volume. By working on this principal the first line of consumers would fund the development of the company.

The bodies were designed by British racing legends Lotus and were shipped to California where the engines were installed and charged which brought the final cost of the car to $100,000. Most would argue that its modest price for a supercar and many would agree it’s a steal of an investment into a company that could hold the future for the motoring industry.

To ensure its success, Musk used his links with Google and Hollywood to gain credibility with public figures such as George Clooney and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Before production of the Roadster even began, there was a’ who’s-who’ of the rich and famous on the waiting list as jumping on the eco-wagon becomes increasingly fashionable.

When officially tested, the Roadster was found to be capable of achieving 0-60 in 3.7 seconds with a limited top speed of 125mph. This meant the first electric supercar could out-perform a Ferrari while keeping you pinned in your seat from the instance you touch the pedal, all in absolute silence.

Tesla also plan on selling the intellectual property for their engines to some of the European car giants which could create a huge supple of affordable electric cars, meaning even if your next car isn’t electric, the one after probably will be.

Even though the Tesla is limited to 125mph, you will still need a driving offence solicitor for any speeding offence you may commit.
