Understanding Classic Car Auctions and How They Work
26th October 2011
To start off with, the classic car auction is usually set up where it’s a combination of an auction as well as a classic car show at the same time. This will give the people the opportunity to be able to look at all of the different cars as well as getting to see some trophy winners. It also gives them the chance to visit with the owner if they are around and ask all the important question one might want to ask about the classic car that they might be interested in bidding on.
These kinds of auctions are usually set up to where they are on the weekend so that the car show and car auction will take up the entire weekend. They may even last a little longer depending upon where they are and what time of the year that it might be. After the actual car show is over, the cars then will start going through the auction. This is when the auctioneer will start reading of the number the car was assigned, the year of the car, the make and model and then they will add any additional information there might be about the particular car up for bid. It is going to be up to the buyer to remember the number of the car if he is interested in bidding for it and buying it.

There are other types of car auctions that will take place in an auction house and this is where the owners will either drive or push their car through the doors of the auction house. They will then sit and wait while their car is being auctioned. The auctioneer will again talk about the car a little bit, he will then look for bidders and then will talk about the car for a little bit longer and then again look around for bidders. He will continue to do this until the biding begins and once there is a winning bid the car will then be driven out of the house and then another car will come in and the process will start all over again.
No matter which car auction a person goes to, the person who bought the car will have to have either cash or a certified check from their bank to pay for the car that they won. So if you are really interested in getting a classic car you need to realize that there are lots others out there and there could be bidding wars so it’s important to bring plenty of cash to one of these kinds of auctions.
Not all classic cars have reserve prices on them, however, most of them do. What this means is that there is an amount that the seller will not go lower than when trying to auction off the car. The bidding does however start below the reserve price and it will keep going until there simply are no more bidders. If that last bidder goes over the reserve price then they win the car. If no bids go over the reserve price then the car did not sell at that auction. Even if the person won the bid, if they don’t want to pay the reserve price they don’t have to and that means they also don’t get to go home with the car either.

Auto Repossession laws and advice?
21st August 2010
Hello! I have a question regarding a vehicle repossession in Georgia. My car was repossessed in November of last year (2009) after I was 3 months past due on my loan. I lost my job and was in college full time and was unable to pay the payments. I tried everything that I could to avoid repossession, however I failed at all attempts. Anyway, I received a letter from the bank shortly after they got the car back that told me that they were going to sell it at a public auction unless I requested a private sale, etc. I did not respond to the letter because I had already tried to sell the car to no avail. I got a letter today telling me that they sold my car on June 30th at an auction for 1800, which leaves a deficiency of ,352.30 that I owe in full within ten days or they will take further action against me. I was wondering what I should do, as I obviously can not pay them. I can barely pay my bills that I currently have. My husband and I are living with his parents, we share a car now and I do not work as I am in college. I graduate in three weeks (Nursing) and will get a job shortly after that (providing that I pass the boards). Would the bank be willing to wait until then? And even then, I can only do a payment arrangment. Also, I thought that the bank was required to tell me when and where the car would be sold so that I could come to the auction if I chose?
Thanks for all help in advance!
I go to school 5 days a week. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, I work at hospitals, nursing homes, drs offices, etc. doing clinicals. I work from 6:30 am until 2:30 pm. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, I go to school from 8:15 am until 2:30 pm. I then go to my husbands job and sit in the parking lot until he gets off work at four and then we drive 30 mins home. The only job I would be able to get would be a part time job, which would be hard working two different shifts with only one car. My husband has one job. We live in a very small town, population less than 10,000 and with an unemployment rate 9% above state average. You think we’re the only ones without a job? I didn’t ask for your criticism, only your advice. You were too busy being judgemental to even answer the question.
And anyway, did I ever say that I was not going to pay the debt? No, I did not. My question was asking if the bank would likely be willing to work out a payment arrangement with me, as I can not pay the lump sum right now.
Thank you, Spock for your answer. To the second poster: This is an example of advice.
The reason I got the car in college was because the original loan was in my dad’s name. My dad got the car for me and made the payments. He later got sick and underwnent open heart surgery and since I had a good, stable job, I told him that I would take on the payments. I then took out a loan in my own name and took over the payments. Had I known then what I know now…. lol
How to correct an error on credit report regarding charge off?
20th March 2010
I recently received my annual free credit report like I do every year. Upon viewing one of the credit files I realized that there was a mistake made on one of the accounts. About 4 years ago I had a vehicle repossessed. I could never agree to any of the terms they wanted to resolve the account so eventually about a year ago, I was served papers. Before going to court, I was finally in a place where I could offer about 80 percent of what they were suing for and they accepted. There was also a co-signer on the vehicle whose name always appeared first on all billing and statements ( not sure if that matters ). I got all the proper paperwork stating the the suit had been cancelled … I had my payoff notice in writing. When I looked on my credit report though, the original company that repoe’d the vehicle has " charged off " on my report. No where on my report does it say that it’s paid off or something along those lines. I then thought that possibly they had sold it to this debt collector/attorney place that had filed the suit against me but they are no where on my credit report at all. When I called the attorney to ask them, they said that they can not change the charge off status at the auto company. Is this true? If so, can the auto company change it or do I just have to let it sit there til it eventually comes off my report? Also, the attorney place told me that they are on the co-signers credit report with the paid off … not mine. Why?
