Crazy Car Crash!!! -4

6th January 2012

The Tesla Roadster Sports is the first fully electric supercar with commercial viability; it is a brainchild of Silicon Valley, financed by 38 year old PayPal billionaire Elon Musk. Tesla is an unconventional motoring start-up founded by Californian software engineer Martin Eberhard.

Eberhard’s dream was to produce a car that was powered by sustainable energy while, unlike all its competitors, was practical enough to use every day. The hard part was developing the technology and putting it in a car at a price people could afford. Then Eberhard realised, none of the high tech gadgets he was used to ever start like that, they were all hyped-up, over priced and rare, becoming cheaper with time and volume. By working on this principal the first line of consumers would fund the development of the company.

The bodies were designed by British racing legends Lotus and were shipped to California where the engines were installed and charged which brought the final cost of the car to $100,000. Most would argue that its modest price for a supercar and many would agree it’s a steal of an investment into a company that could hold the future for the motoring industry.

To ensure its success, Musk used his links with Google and Hollywood to gain credibility with public figures such as George Clooney and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Before production of the Roadster even began, there was a’ who’s-who’ of the rich and famous on the waiting list as jumping on the eco-wagon becomes increasingly fashionable.

When officially tested, the Roadster was found to be capable of achieving 0-60 in 3.7 seconds with a limited top speed of 125mph. This meant the first electric supercar could out-perform a Ferrari while keeping you pinned in your seat from the instance you touch the pedal, all in absolute silence.

Tesla also plan on selling the intellectual property for their engines to some of the European car giants which could create a huge supple of affordable electric cars, meaning even if your next car isn’t electric, the one after probably will be.

Even though the Tesla is limited to 125mph, you will still need a driving offence solicitor for any speeding offence you may commit.

Traffic tickets can stick with you for a while. Some states will keep this violation on your record for 2 or 3 years. You will also face higher insurance premiums, once you have paid the expensive fee that often accompanies a violation. If you feel that you were unjustly served a violation, there are a number of techniques you can use in court in order to prevent this violation from sticking to your record.

Typically, a violation is given due to the subjective judgment of a police office. Challenge this view, but make sure to use facts to back up your argument to make it reasonable. When you only depend on your word versus the officer’s word, the judge will most likely side with the officer. For instance, challenge where the officer was located, and how this may have hindered his viewpoint of what actually happened.

There are practical steps you can take to create doubt in a judge’s mind. Remember; do not only rely on your words and your version of the story. Gather real information and facts to build your case.

Example of case building can be the gathering of eyewitness statements. Take statements from bystanders or the passenger in the car, who may be willing to testify on your behalf. Present a simple and easy to understand diagram of the location of the incident. This may be particularly helpful if you are disputing an incident that involves an intersection. Consult assistance with a professional criminal lawyer if you feel unprepared for your trial.

Present pictures of road signs or conditions that may have provoked your driving. These pictures can be used to show unclear road signs, such as a stop sign covered by a tree, etc. You can also use this strategy to show that the officer may not have had a clear vantage point of what supposed driving violation you committed, from where the police car was parked.

Prove to the judge that you made an honest, unintentional mistake. This may happen if you failed to stop at a pedestrian stop because the strips were faded. You may have missed a stop sign that has just been placed. With this strategy you are building a case that you could not have known what action was required of you, since the conditions were so unclear.

Sometimes you may have had to actually do what you are being violated for. In this case, you may seek legal justification. For instance, you may have been driving slowly in the left lane because you were preparing for a legal left turn. You may have switched lanes without using a signal because a car was closing in on you quickly, and you were afraid of being part of an accident.

It may seem that fighting traffic tickets are a lost cause, but not fighting them may become a burden to your wallet. You will have to pay the fee that is associated with the violation. Then, you can also expect to pay higher premium rates on your automobile insurance. In addition, you can also expect demerit points placed on your license. Depending on your state these points may stay on your license anywhere from 2-3 years.

If you have lost your driving licence you will have either reached the highest number of penalty points allowed or have committed an offence that was considered by the courts to have put the lives of others at risk.

The length of a driving ban depends on the severity of the offence and can range from one year to ten years. In severe cases, a judge will ban an offender from driving for life, with the safety of the public at mind.

In some less serious offences an offender may be required to serve a Short Period Disqualification (SPD) which is less than fifty six days. Your driving licence will be held by the court for the duration of the period but it will not be revoked, you will not need to retake a test and you can start driving once the SPD has expired.

If you have lost your licence you may reapply after the period of the disqualification which can be done by filling in the correct forms available online or at a post office. This will only get you a provisional driving licence so you can apply to re-take the theory, hazard perception and practical test.

The endorsements of a disqualification will remain on a licence unless otherwise instructed by a magistrate for which you will need to appear and present your case for removal.

For full disqualifications it is possible for drivers to apply to for their licence earlier than the expiry of the disqualification. However, this is dependant on the individual circumstances of the driver and the length of the ban.

A driver may be allowed by a court to only serve half their disqualification if they have undertaken driving improvement courses or other steps to ensure safer driving once qualified. The effect of the ban on an individual’s family life or career may also be considered by the court.

Driving bans exceeding 2 years may be overturned after half the proposed disqualification period, for example for a ban of 10 years you can apply after 5. If you re-offended, driving or otherwise, since your disqualification there is no hope of overturning a ban and if you drive whilst banned you may face a custodial sentence and a hefty fine.
