I have an appoitnment today to check out a used car that a guy is selling. The car has just 12,000 miles, is a 2008. I don’t think it has any problems but I’ll buy the car fax anyways. All I want to know, is what especific things I should look for besides checking the engine and stuff like that. What papers should the oner show me?
How should I handle the documentation (title, registration and plates)?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I live in Virginia and the car was repossessed by a credit union. Paid about half the loan off but spouse lost job and we are behind in everything. This is so humiliating – I am so ashamed.

Has anyone gone through this? Does a Credit Union let you pay just what’s late and you get you car back or do they want the full payment of what is still owed? What about my stuff in the car?

Not sure how much more of these money problems I can take…

I watch some of those repo shows on television like All Worked Up and Operation Repo. I have seen where the repo company doesn’t allow the owner of the vehicle to get their belongings out of the car when they come back to the company after the car was repossessed until the repo paper work has been fully processed, than they can get their stuff or something like that. I know Tru TV is just for pure entertainment purposes only, but they are based on real repos, just dramatized for television. Just wondering if it was true in real life that you can’t get your belongings out if you go back to the company after the car is repossessed? I just think it is ridiculous because, yes, you didn’t pay the finance company, and the car got repoed, but the repo company people should get the people’s belongings out for them and why do they not let them get their stuff out if it’s true?

So, I helped my irresponsible sister, who is 4 years older than me btw buy a car. Its under my name and she is the co-signer. I got a letter in the mail yesterday from the lein holder saying that the car had been repossessed and if I wanted it back I had to send 4 months of non-payment by 11/09. I tried to call her but no answer of course so I called the lein holder to see what the deal was. They said she hadn’t paid in 4 months and the car was taken a week ago on 10/15, so I’m pissed right! Well, she is on the phone with someone while I’m on the phone with that guy making the 2000 dollar payment and arranging to get the car back today. Should I say screw it and take the car away from her even if she gets mad to save my credit or should I let her try again. She is the most irresponsible of the family and she HAS done this before. I know I was dumb to help her but I could hear my mom yelling in my ear to help her, she was always bailing her out of stuff. What should I do, she won’t return my calls? Should I just go get the car from her?
Didn’t clarify myself right, she made the 00 payment, not me. Should I take it anyway and start the payments? I can make the payments no prob cuz I own my home and just paid off my truck last month!

I currently own a 97 Ford Escort LX and am planning to sell it off and get another used car. Living in Connecticut and may buy another used car within the NY upstate area. What additional fees are involved, if I already have a CT license plate can I use that agains the new car bought in NY or the car dealer would ask me to do additional stuff and any high fees involved when buying from another state?
