What is the best used car to buy from the 90's/early 2000's?

I am look at Toyota Corollas or Honda Civics cause I hear they’re reliable as long as they’re maintained well. But I also found a cheap used Mercedes- are luxury cars good to buy used or are they not reliable? Also what’s good mileage to buy on an old car from the 90′s/early 2000′s?
