What company is the best to buy a used car from?
18th June 2010
We have a 1989 Toyota Camry that’s been used way too long that my sisters and I drive. We want to get a used car, but we don’t want to spend more than 00 on it and we really would like it to not be as old. I’ve heard Honda, Toyota, and Hyundai aren’t hat bad.

Don’t buy from a dealer. Dealers don’t know the vehicle, they just lie to you just to get rid of it and charges more.
Buy from Craigslist in your area, from owners.
I’ve been shopping for cars there for two days, and I found several within 25 miles from my home. I clicked on Autotrader and found none.

Some high-reliability cars available at $5,000 or less are:
The (2000 to 2004) Toyota Echo (a sedan or 2-door hatchback – predecessor to the Yaris), with a 2009 Auto Reliability GPA of a perfect 4.00 over a 6-year data history,
The (2003) Honda Element, with a 2010 Auto Reliability GPA of 3.94 over a 7-year data history,
The (2000 or earlier) 4-cylinder Toyota RAV4 (a small SUV), with a 2010 Auto Reliability GPA of 3.88 over a 10-year data history,
The (2003 or earlier) Toyota Corolla (a small sedan), with a 2010 Auto Reliability GPA of 3.81 over a 10-year data history,
The (2003 or earlier) 4-cylinder Honda Accord (a midsize coupe or sedan), with a 2010 Auto Reliability GPA of 3.81 over a 10-year data history,
The (2003 or earlier) Honda Civic (a small coupe or sedan), whose sedan edition has a 2010 Auto Reliability GPA of 3.75 over a 10-year data history,
The (2002 or earlier) 4-cylinder Toyota Camry (a midsize car), with a 2010 Auto Reliability GPA of 3.69 over a 10-year data history,
The (2001 or earlier) Honda CR-V (a small SUV), with a 2010 Auto Reliability GPA of 3.63 over a 10-year data history.

The cars you have named are excellent choices. What ever you decide to buy be sure to have it checked out by a mechanic. New car dealers often get trades that are people just like you, wanting a newer car.

You heard wrong about Toyota as can be seen here: http://www.toyotaframerust.com/
And here: http://www.nlcnet.org/reports?id=0007
Get a Chevy Cobalt. Chevys last forever.

Honda and Toyota make nice reliable used cars, and if you can, spend the little extra money and get it from a dealer, because at least you would at least probably get a cleaner car and a place to service it as well as maybe some extra incentives, like having financing options. And if you buy a car off like craigslist, you really don’t know much about the car, and i doubt you could send that back if the car has any major faults. Hyundai makes some great cheap used cars as well as kia and volkswagen. Maybe a 2004 Hyundai Accent or a 2000-01 Toyota Corolla would work as well as maybe a luxurious 2000 Land Rover Discovery.

If you are only spending $5000, then don’t buy Hyundai. Older models are not as reliable as the new ones. Toyota and Honda are good choices, also try Ford.
