My mother is planning on buying a used car. Her budget is about 5000. I do not have any great suggestions. She wants something small to midsize. She has already checked out a 1998 corolla with 68,000 miles and a 2002 mazda protege. Any other suggestions? I was curious if the ford focus might be a good choice. Thanks yahoo

  1. It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota… First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car – for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

  3. Honda Accords are good cars my mom owns one and it’s never given her problems…i don’t know it she wants an SUV but i’m a fan of chevy blazers they run great, are 4×4 and are all pretty reasonable…just my opinion good luck…

  4. The Ford Focus would be a pretty good choice, but usually foreign cars are better choices, they are more reliable, they last longer, and have cheaper replacement parts. As long as the car is foreign you should be ok. Make sure you use this site to find ratings of the car before buying it, edmunds.com. Good Luck.
