I am looking for a Honda Civic sedan. Craigslist did not have anything. I live in Los Altos near Mountain View in CA. Are there other ways to find good used cars?

The Honda dealers rip you off if you try to buy a used car through them. I wish to find private parties to buy a used car.

  1. There may not be anything on craigslist right now, but be patient and something will come up. It is still the best source, especially at the lower end of the market. If you want to broaden your search, also try looking in craigslist LA, San Diego etc. While these may seem too far, if you know what you’re looking for and its more than a few hundred dollars, often you can find such a car in a distance of less than an hour flight away. Often the price is cheaper by $100 or $200 for a cheap car and a lot more for expensive cars, which is more than enough to fly down and drive it home. You can PayPal a small deposit to have them hold it until you get there. Southwest regularly has cheap flights, plus cas in SoCal have way less rust than NorCal because the lack of rain in the South.
