My mom is looking looking to buy a used car tomorrow. She’s been preapproved from her bank for ,000 (she wanted to stay pretty low). She wants a car from the 2000s, possibly some sort of station wagon. Nothing fancy, just something with good ratings and that won’t cost an arm and a leg for maintenance. We’re in eastern Washington state. Any suggestions?

  1. Honda Accord Estate (or Station Wagon in US English) would be my choice. Cheap to buy and run, comfortable, reliable and practical. Won’t wow you or anything but it does what it does superbly.

  2. I would reccomend a 2001 ish Subaru Outback. It has AWD for those Washington winters and is a great ski car.

  3. It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota… First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car – for example here – carinsurance.deep-ice.com
