What is the best way to deal with sleezeball used car salesman when trying to buy a different car?

I’d really like some do’s and don’t when buying a used car. Tricks that salesman use to get more money out of you, etc.

If you go to a reputable dealer, then you won’t deal with sleazball sales people. You will get a good car at a fair price. If they are trying to sell you a different car than what you are looking for, just simply explain your needs and express the specific car you need.

I once bought a book on dealing with a used car salesman. It was a BOOK.
MSNBC had a news story on where is the best places to buy used cars. The used car dealers were on the BOTTOM of the list. They are pros at negotiations (and you and I are rank amateurs), they are pros at hiding problems on their cars, etc.
The private sales (newspaper, etc.) were the best places. The seller will not tell you all the problems, but they don’t know how to hide them.
And a private seller are at MOST they are equal in negotiation skills to you and me.

The best thing is to NOT go to them.

if your trading in a older car dont let the scumbag know about the trade untill you have negotiated down the price of his car. so then once your satesfied with the sales price of the new car you can then negotiate for the trade of your car and get the most money for it as possible. dont even bother with the sales guy go straight to the decission maker and get the manager involved, he is the most spineless guy at the stealership and proboably got his job because hes family with the owner, as long as you can get him to reason with you he will more than likely accept the "mini-deal" than let you walk after a few invested hours in the car, my last car took me 2 days to buy, 1st day we test drove and looked at all the cars on the lot the second day we negotiated and finalized the deal all took about 8 hours. once the dealer has several hours of manpower invested in your purchase he is more likely to let you get your way. do not let them tell you that the pice is firm there is no such thing as no haggle pricing they would rather sell acar than let it sit on there profit and loss monthly statements, you should look to go neer the end of the month when they are trying to show there bosses why they should keep there jobs.

Never shop payment. Be ready to walk away –there will always be another car.Get it in writing. Simple but solid advice.

Going in assuming your salesman is a sleezebag is your first mistake. Treat them right and they’ll treat you right.
