In november, my car was totaled in a hit and run accident and I only had liability, anyways I finally have k saved for a new used car. I’m going to look at an 01 impala soon. The asking price is 99, it has all the options that I want ect. What would be a reasonable cash offer if I decide I want this car? Thanks!

  1. Since the price is $4999, I’m assuming this car is at a dealer. You don’t state what the miles are, so I’ve assumed it has 125,000 on it. 10,000 miles either way will make no real difference. So here’s what I have. The car would have been taken in on trade for around $1500-$1800 depending on condition. It has a private party range of $3290 – $4320. Dealer retail is $5315. These are simply book numbers. Based on what the dealer has in it, a fair price would be around $3200-$3500. Nobody is getting anything close to retail on used cars, so go after this one wth the price range I’ve given you. One last factor to take into consideration. There were two motors in these cars. A 3.4 V6, and a 3.8 V6. They were both good motors. The 3.8 will bump my nmbers up by $300-$500. If you get the right price, take it to a mechanic before you buy it. Good luck!

  2. i feel that $3900-$4000 would be a reasonable offer as it is quite an old car… also the mileage on the car will influence the resale value as often the cars with very high mileage give a lot of engine trouble especially impala’s have an over-heating problem… make sure there has been no accident repair done on the car… also check the car for corrosion since its a 10 year old car… if all is good and you are convinced bargain for the best price but never go over $4200 as it is not worth it…
