i was looking at different listings to purchase a used car. i can get a better deal buying from an owner rather than a dealer. i would like to know what are my main concerns with doing this? and about making a safe legitimate transaction?

  1. Private parties do not collect any of the taxes that dealers do (in most states…). They also do have a dealer bond or any of the legal constraints that dealer’s are expected to adhere to. That is, you may pay less, but you have little recourse if you get cheated.

ALWAYS have any used car you are considering checked by a mechanically competent person, ALWAYS inspect the title history. And, pay cash. Do the final transaction at a Motor Vehicle office to make sure the title is clean.

If you are careful, you may get a real bargain. If not, you may get a real stick up your ***.

Be careful! there are a lot of people making a living with scams, and there are a lot of owners who don’t want you to know what you are really buying, not to mention the private sellers who really don’t know how bad the car they are selling actually is.

    I wish you luck!
