What to look into when buying a used car?
9th July 2010
I want to buy a used 2003 Mazda Protege ES, what details should I look into? I don’t want a bad problematic car. It has about 80,000 miles.

There is alot of research that needs to be done before buying a car whether new or used. You don’t want to walk into any problems down the road. Before buying you should find out; mileage of vehicle; condition of exterior/interior; has car been in accident; has car been adequately serviced, what is the average cost of repairs for car, what has been repaired in past; how many miles per gallon, is it with the origianl owner, etc. Also, go to this site for more information:

Go to Kelly Blue Book.com type in your information and see what it is worth. Be sure to put down everything. It will give you three prices one is for excellant shape one is for good shape and the other is fair shape. Check with the BBB to see if the company is listed.

Well the safest thing to do is to take it to a mechanic you trust and have them check it. If the owner has records where they had the car serviced that will help as well. Run a carfax to make sure the car has not been in a wreck. Use kbb.com for pricing information. Pay as close to the trade in value as possible but never over retail.
