RV travel is expected to be on the rise this summer. A number of factors are adding up to see Americans enjoying their time off in RVs as opposed to hotels. Over 8.2 million households own an RV reports RVIA. With prices of hotel and airfare seeming excessive to many travelers, RVing and camping are quickly taking the place of overseas vacations.

RVIA found that close to half of current used and new RV owners are planning on traveling more by RV this year than last year. Those that have tasted the RV lifestyle get hooked. Many times people are exposed to RV travel as kids on family vacations. Those experiences are memories people want to recreate with their own families and friends.

If you own an RV, why wouldn’t you travel with it? Every time you get out in your RV, you’re paying off an investment. Each trip becomes less and less expensive. If you calculate the cost of purchasing or renting an RV into each subsequent vacation, you end up saving more and more money. Not to mention, there’s always a vacation on wheels waiting in your driveway. You get to bring all the comforts of home and eat the way you like when you like. You don’t have to worry about expensive room service or eating out every night. Families have just as much fun cooking over a campfire as they do at a restaurant.

The reasons behind increased RV travel? Cost is the biggest. Traveling by new or used motorhome can result in savings over traditional forms of travel including airfare, hotel stays and eating out. Being able to get out and explore or pick up and go at will is another big draw, especially for those spending extended periods of time on the road.

RV enthusiasts get out more when they travel by RV and tend to be more physically engaged with the environment than with other vacations. This may be that their destinations are National Parks and are ripe for walking, biking and climbing.

Baby boomers are retiring and buying an RV is one way to get out and explore in a way they weren’t able to when they were tied to a forty hour a week job. People who have been laid off are getting out more as well and spending their time exploring the outdoors. Trails are packed with people checking off life-list opportunities while they can.

Campgrounds are preparing for an influx of visitors this summer. They are offering eco-friendly accommodations as well as recreation for all ages of family members. Campgrounds today offer fishing on premises, golf courses, games for kids, exercise rooms and more.

RV rentals will start picking up soon as will sales. So head out to your nearest RV dealer. There are thousands of new and used RVs awaiting adventurers. Pack your bags and start exploring the world around you.
