I did an Autocheck on a 2000 Volvo and the mileage (only 8300) was reported at an auto auction when the car was only 10 months old. The car is in great shape and has never been in an accident. It doesn’t have any red flags but I thought it sounded fishy since it was so new and ended up at an auction.
Thanks for the responses, guys.

Bestauto, I should have been clearer in my question. The car is a 2000 V70, front-wheel drive model that currently has 150K miles on it (the owner took a lot of trips in it but his commute to work is very short). The Autocheck shows that it was at an auto auction back when it only had 8300 miles on it. I got to drive it around the side streets and on an interstate up to 70 mph and it shifts smoothly (automatic) and runs like it should. From the current owner tells me, it has always been well-maintained and adult-driven. He knows the previous owners well. I’ve just never owned a Volvo before and want to be careful. They sure are popular though. I see a ton of these wagons on the road!

  1. after 10 months it is most likely a repossession. The miles are too low to be a rental lease.

  3. Lots of reasons. Repo. Owner decided they hated it and traded it in.

There are lots of fairly new cars at dealer auctions every week.

Despite what people think. Auctions don’t make cars bad.
